The SDG Olympiad Global Challenges Track offers access to students in regions not yet reached by an official SDG Innovation Event. While the Olympiad is driven by challenge-based learning hosted by partner universities, this track ensures inclusivity, as we work to expand and bring more innovative events closer to you.

What you’ll need.

  • A team of 3 to 5 students
    You can’t compete solo - bring together a group of motivated peers from your university.

  • A professor to support your project
    This can be a lecturer, supervisor, or faculty member who agrees to back your work.

  • A preferred challenge
    Take a look at the Global Citizen challenges and pick the one that excites your team the most.

  • Availability to commit
    Make sure your team can participate throughout the competition and submit your work on time.

  • A shared passion for sustainability
    You don’t need to be an expert - just motivated to make a difference and ready to learn.

  • Application deadline: July 11
    All team members and your professor must be confirmed by this date.

  • Any university student (Bachelor, Master or PhD) from any country. You don’t need to be from a partner university.

  • You can register without a team for now. We’ll send you all the info you need while you find your teammates and professor. Just make sure to submit your full team and supervisor details by July 11.

  • Yes. Each team must have a professor or faculty member who agrees to support your project and act as your academic supervisor.

  • Yes - as long as you can work together and share the same supervisor, your team can include students from different universities.

  • The competition typically requires around 30 to 50 hours of work in total. This includes researching the challenge, developing your solution, and preparing your final submission. Your team sets its own schedule, so you can work at your own pace.

  • Check out the Global Citizen challenges listed on the site. You’ll be asked to choose your preferred one when you register - but don’t worry if you’re still deciding.
